Wind Storm Knocks Out Power On Long Island

Thousands of Long Islanders have been left without power as wind storms with gusts topping 50 mph downed wires and sent tree branches flying.

As of around 2:15 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 2, PSEG crews were working to repair 185 active outages that were impacting 3,320 of the company’s 1,163,123 Long Island customers.

In Suffolk, 1,537 of PSEG’s 638,294 customers were reporting outages:

  • Huntington: 865
  • Brookhaven: 412;
  • Smithtown: 84;
  • Riverhead: 64;
  • Islip: 48;
  • Babylon: 33;
  • Southampton: 21;
  • Southold: 8.

There were less than five customers affected in Shelter Island and East Hampton.


In Nassau, 779 of the company’s 488,821 customers were without power:

  • Hempstead: 415;
  • North Hempstead: 251;
  • Oyster Bay: 113.

There were also 53 customers in the Rockaway Peninsula who were reporting outages.

According to PSEG, additional supplies and crews have been brought in to repair any outages. Complete power restoration is expected no later than 11:45 p.m. on Monday night.
